1) Health insurance covers the cost so I haven't needed to pay
2) A lot of space to exercise due to having two aerobic/dance studios
3) Have a particular machine which I need for physical therapy
If one is willing to deal with broken machines and lack of air conditioning on certain floors for already two summers, then the gym is fine. During off peak hrs, there is a lot of space.
1) fixing broken air conditioning (one floor has lacked ac for two summers)
2) fixing broken machines in a timely manner (not a month)
3) more than superficial cleaning
4) Replacing missing/broken items instead of just discarding them
5) Aerobic machines are moved, yet internet is lacking when machines are moved
Have maintained that which I've wanted to maintain
I do not take classes so I haven't had any experience with instructors.
My health insurance covers the cost.

This NYSC is close to my apartment and the largest of chain gyms in my budget in the area.
Maybe. This gym is all that you would expect - lots of cardio equipment packed into a large room, a downstairs weight training room, and a few matted/free areas to do freestyle or trained workouts. It's nothing spectacular but just enough to do what you need to do and leave.
All of the above could be improved, it's all fine though - the facility is frequently being cleaned but doesn't feel impeccable; the equipment is fine but not the most up to date; classes are mediocre but I don't mind since I take boutique classes outside of this gym; locker room is decent but nothing fancy (includes: towels, generic shower products , hairdryers doesn't include: fancy lotions; deodorants, etc.)
My goals are to tone up, as well as use working out as impromtu stress release. As a standard gym, this facility doesn't need bells and whistles to help me achieve my goals.
Proximity. It is very close by where I work and live.
It is very well maintained.
I would recommend it just because it's cleanness. I would also say that it has very sufficient equipment for my regular workouts.
more squat racks. It's getting crowded, many people signed up. I also wished that there is a swimming pool. There are a few NYSC that have swimming pool.
My goal is to try to stay fit and in shape, also gain slightly more muscle.
I had great experiences with the yoga classes that they provide. I found them very well prepared and informative, and helpful to all yoga students.
I just signed up with my work discount for NYSC. It has month to mont commitment.
It was the closest gym to work for me and it had the best deal. Seemed like a good location to start.
There are some great instructors at this club whose classes are definitely worth trying out. Specially for spin class. Very friendly staff.
They recently did construction, but I have yet to see positive results come of it. They combined a lot of the machines from the 86th street location that closed, and it feels very claustrophobic.
My goals are to increase my endurance and strength. Sometimes I can’t make the classes often enough to see results. The schedules don’t always work with mine.
- convenient location (close to work)
- wide range of available equipment (barbells, prowler sled, deadlift platforms, medicine balls, sandbags, etc.)
Yes--wide range of equipment; one of the nicest NYSC facilities in the city. There's also towel service and a sauna/steam room, which are nice.
- CLEANLINESS (towels and weights always seem to be laying around on the floor)
- some barbells are bent/poor quality
- towel service
My goals are to become stronger and leaner.
This gym has the right equipment to allow me to train my strength and conditioning.
I’ve been wanting to lose weight and create a healthier lifestyle for myself by staying fit and active.
Very clean facility with excellent amenities. Lots of machines and establishment is always stocked with sanitary necessities.
No complaints; everything is pretty awesome at my gym! They offer a ton of classes and there are plenty of machines for everyone, even during peak hours.
I’ve been trying to lose weight to help relieve stress off my bad knee. There have been times where my injury causes me to pause in my workouts and the team of excellent trainers have offered to help me when my knee locked up, even though I was not paying for personal training sessions.
No commitment required; I have a corporate rate through my employer
I joined because it is literally one block away from my office, so I can get a great workout in, shower, and still get to work on time.
The morning staff is absolutely wonderful. Dulce and Francisco in particular (the front desk workers) are so kind and quick to offer help as needed. There is a lot of strength training and cardio equipment available, a TRX zone, two large class studios, and a cycling studio.
There have been many times that the locker room showers do not have hot water. But, whenever you ask the front desk staff (Dulce is particularly helpful) they are usually able to remedy it.
My goal is to burn fat and build lean muscle. The gym has plenty of strength training resources for me to accomplish that.
Jenny Kuehn is a Les Mills Combat instructor and her class was phenomenal!! She is a really motivating instructor and the class makes you SWEAT!
I went with a Passport membership which gives me access to all sports clubs throughout the city. You can do a monthly charge of $99 a month or an annual charge of $89/mo (what I did).
I joined because NYSC is EVERYWHERE! They are taking over the NYC area and putting other clubs to shame!
Yes! They have a variety of classes at times that are applicable to me and their instructors are awesome! So many different types of classes that I would never think of taking. The instructors are very welcoming to newbies!
Locker rooms/ group ex rooms/ equipment only at certain locations.
Get stronger through Bodypump! Get fitter and build endurance through Bodycombat. Stretch and tone through PiYo!
Davina is a fabulous PiYo instructor! She was extremely welcoming as this was my first time.
You can do month to month or pay for the full year.
I was in the market for a new gym, and my employer offers a discount for the unlimited NYSC pass. I live nearby, so I figured why not give it a shot.
So far, I would recommend, I have not been to any other location yet, but in general, machines are usually available, and it is always clean.
There are generally several treadmills that have some sort of issue - either they are wobbly, screens don't work, incline doesn't work. I also wish the layout of the weight room was a little better, had more free weights, etc.
My goals are to build muscle and maintain an overall high quality of fitness. NYSC is helping by being a gym with multiple types of equipment necessary to do exactly that.
I have not met with any instructors yet
An annual fee and then a monthly charge.
building endurance for running and strength training. I am planning on running the New York marathon this year.
yes. it is extremely expensive, but the place is kept clean and I never an issue with it how busy it gets. it keeps cheap nasty people away!
timings I like the advantage of 24 hours. also I would like to see more classes be available to guests.
gaining muscle and building endurance. since joining I have gained 6 pounds of muscles and lost 4 pounds I am happy with the results.
great spin class. highly recommend Andy. has a great playlist and does well with beginners.
12 month commitment with almost $100 in signup fees (ouch). but its work it and the neighborhood is great.
I was fat and needed a change in my life before it was too late. Clothes didn't fit.
Yeah. It's got good equipment and it's in a central location. Equipment is new and plentiful.
Towel service could be a little better. Showers could be a little cleaner.
Not be fat. Helps me exercise and keeps me accountable to doing work.
Instructors are nice and knowledgable for the most part.
I have a month to month contract.
I love to workout and my gym was no longer cutting it. Needed heavier weights, different equipment that i was not able to use in my home.
The gym is clean, they are constantly cleaning it. they have all the weights and machines that I need and wanted to use. The music is great, they have classes that I love to take.
They could provide different equipment and more weights in the heavier area like 50 pounds and up.
To loose weight, gain muscle and to lean out as much as possible.
I have not used an instructor but have taken several spin classes and love it.
Every thing was explained and all info. was provided. Nothing was hidden and was allowed to ask as many questions as I wanted.
I joined to establish a daily routine of exercising, and feeling good before my wedding!
Yes! Equipment is always clean, and I can always find a good spot in the gym to do my own thing.
I have found the classes to not be challenging enough!
My goals are to be in shape, and toned. I aim to go to the gym 5-6x/week.
I had to pay a yearly initiation fee, and then a month-to-month gym membership.
Needed a place to work out. It was cheap and close, but the one-year contract is too long
Sort of. It's one of the only options in the area so there's not a lot of choice
Could be cleaner. Horseflies attack me incessantly while lifting. Could be more squat racks
Get in top shape, it does the job. Stays open early until late which helps a bit
Trainers are great. They're energetic and provide good instruction and motivation.
One-year commitment. Too long of a commitment, but that's how they make money I guess.
I joined NYSC because I was getting married and wanted to lose weight. I live in the upper east side and the gym was 6 blocks away.
I would recommend this location. Lots of healthy eating options around the gym and lots of classes are available.
The only thing is that people who lift very heavy weights hog the machines. It can be a bit intimidating.
My goal is to lose weight and continue to eat healthy.
I have not had any experiences with an instructor.
You sit with a member of the membership staff and they go over your goals and rates.
Needed a gym close to home and work, NYSC has many locations that are all convenient. Gym is affordable and offers many different types of classes
Yes - offer good classes, gym area is always clean and maintained, there are always cardio machines open and class schedule is convenient for after or before working
sometimes showers are a little dingy, if they were cleaned more regularly I would be more likely to use them
I am just trying to stay in shape, the classes are a great way for me to get in a quick fun workout and I can always use the gym outside of classes if I feel I need a better workout
All of my instructors have been great! no complaints about any of them, classes are fun and energetic
When I signed up, to lock in my monthly rate I needed to commit to one year of membership
I joined NYSC because they have a myriad of locations, not only in NYC where I work, but always upstate NY, which is convenient when I visit family members. Further it had a reasonable price tag and a great schedule of classes offered.
Yes, I recommend NYSC. It's an affordable gym with various locations in NY and offers a variety of gym classes and equipment one can use.
locker rooms could be improved, along with better showers and some amenities would be nice.
My goal is to remain active and become stronger. This gym helps me to achieve this goal with the great classes they offer.
Ric is a great cycling instructor who always has the best playlists for class- def recommend his class!
At the time when I joined, I did not need to put any money down. One application paper to complete with credit card info was very quick to do.
This gym is really close to my work and is a large, well-mantained facility. They have a lot of machines in good shape and they have plenty of space, so you never have to wait.
I would recommend it. It's a surprisingly large gym for Manhattan and has a great ton of equipment and knowledgable trainers.
The place is nice, nothing needs improvement. They have everything you could want.
I'm trying to get into the best shape possible and they help me do that.
The trainers are knowledgable and good at knowing my limits and pushing me when needed. They have a great understanding of injury prevention, corrective exercises and bodybuilding.
Typical signup process. I joined for a year for a corporate rate and then I purchased an additional training package.
