I was a member in Richfield and Edina before. I moved to Austin for work and joined this LA fitness due to them there for me and my loyalty to your great establishment. Ive ventured to many other LA fitness and its been great. But this site is a bit different
Compared to the Richfield and Edina LA fitness, this one is the worst. The machines are so outdated! Because of this, they don't move very well and need to be greased up or completely replaced. They also only have one of each machine which means you are waiting sometimes.
This location is also small so machines are close and you're facing people which can be awkward. Overall, I didn't enjoy this gym and prefer my home la fitness at Edina.
I have not injured myself fortunatley, some machines were really faulty.. I have struggled to stay on path and on a correct regimen, my schedule can get off due to it being too crowed too. But the machines get repaired quickly and the gym is kept rather clean. HUGE improvements since my last rough visit.
The classes are one of my favorite parts of LA fitness. It depends on the instructor but I have had some great instructors for the body works, spin and Zumba classes. They offer class super early in the morning and later in the afternoon and evenings. The times work well with my work schedule.
To sign up they offered a discount and price reduction with no sign in fee, so that was kind. they also allow a tour and a free trial of what you can expect, so try that and see if your okay with the small surroundings.
This reviewer got a $10 Amazon gift card in exchange for the review
ive been loyal to Anytime fitness for a while, i did it in my college years when i lived in chicago. But i came to austin and saw that this site was actually nicer looking, more convienent (location wise) as well as a bigger site-- so all this was a great means to join/return .
Yes i would, i have enjoyed my time with them over the past 8 years. They are a very kind and respectful establishment, with really great staff too. The workout rooms are proper sized and has great air conditioning and lighting (nothing to give headaches ). The size is very large and you can workout in your own space happily.
I recently have been using the app, i used to constantly call them and ask them hours + schedules of the day etc.-- that being said the app + website can be a bit difficult when it comes to receiving feedback on whether the gym has reopened or not. If they could get back to their members quicker on our questions and concerns, thatd be much better
I dont really go to the gym with an extreme intention of enlargening myself or losing immense weights. I simply like to just workout and stay fit and also relieve stress through yoga, and LA fitness offers all these opprotunities. Also the steam/sauna room that they have is excellent to ease stress as well. It's a magical place there, very great isolation and way to stay fit and healthy
I havent worked with any instructors , upon joining they did give me all the resources to get in contact and schedule a time with them. i do admire their work, i just havent needed a lot of time with that. The staff though, is a group of kind people, and the management in Austin location is superb as well (just like chicagos). They are patient and kind as you enter.
Signing up was easy when i did it, i understood all the perks that came and everything was clearly laid out for me. They make it very simple and assure you that its a beneficial cause. (without sounding like a typical intensive sales dependent environment )
I used to work at a gym so my standards are pretty high for other gyms I visit. This place was clean, lots of available machines, and the front desk staff was friendly!
Yes, After living in Austin for a few years and trying several gyms, LA Fitness was the only one that really worked for me.
Considering price point, hours, equipment, staff, amenities, clientele, and locations, LA Fitness really is the best gym in the Austin area.
The BIGGEST issue, undoubtedly, is the hours of operation. Closing at 10pm on week days, 9pm on Fridays, and 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Absolutely ridiculous for any competitive lifter or athlete in training.
Since joining here, i have saw my motivation for getting a better lifestyle increase. I am watching my weight and have formed a good diet!
Zu is the best fitness instructor. She is professional, safe and gives a extremely challenging workout . I am really fit but still leave the class sweating and have seen results.
Signing up is easy, if you don't have a membership they will send you to a sales rep who will offer you access for around $20 a month. Good pricing!
LA Fitness always runs commercials that made me want to check it out. The pricing was okay but the place was lovely
Yes, this location has a bunch of machines to work out every muscle and free weights if you are old fashioned.
The locker rooms can be dirty at times, so cleaning them more often would be a plus!
Joining, i didn't see myself losing any weight because i thought i was already fit. I have saw my body get stronger than i knew it could.
You get 2 free session in a secluded area, the trainers help you focus on what groups to work out on and they know how to make your muscles grow the way you want them to look.
They hand out these business cards for a free 2 week trial of the gym, and after that they give you a discount for joining. it was worth it!
Great indoor basketball court and nice facility. It has 5 racks, it is enough for plenty of people.
I strongly suggest people to go check it out. LA Fitness is a very well maintained gym franchise. Friendly staff and only charge you monthly, no yearly commitment required.
I would say the hours on the weekend is slightly inconvenient, however the overall gym is super nice. Nothing major to complain.
I am trying to stay active. Getting a indoor basketball court definitely help me to stay in shape.
I joined a cardio workout class with Berry. He was very helpful. Free classes included in the monthly membership. Great professional instructor.
Monthly payment, no need to pay anything in advance.
I joined LA fitness to have a gym option that didn't require signing up for classes and that I could go on my own time to work out and it is close to home.
I would recommend. It never gets too crowded so you don't have to wait for machines. They offer classes that you can take as well that are a great workout option to mix things up.
They could add a greater variety of classes. The TV on the equipment are sometimes out of order.
My goals is to lose weight and be healthy and my membership has helped with that.
The instructors seem to be newer to teaching classes but they do a great job
Sign up process was simple and quick. The membership dues are definitely affordable and you can cancel with 30 day notice so you aren't locked in.
Convenient location to my home and work. Basketball court and racquetball court at every location. Consistent amenities at each location.
I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a simple gym that is affordable and has all the same amenities at every location. I hate having to find which gym has a pool, basketball court, sauna, or anything else. Each LA Fitness is similar to others.
The restrooms could be cleaner. The water fountains at every location seem to always be warm and never cold. Not sure how they haven't found a water vendor to ensure cold water in 2018. Towel service would be nice too.
My goals are to stay in shape and be more active. Being able to play pick up basketball has helped a ton.
I took a few spin classes and the instructor was great and inclusive to new members as well as old. She seemed very knowledgeable and helpful.
I signed up for a month to month membership and there was no other commitment needed.
Proximity to my home. The gym is located in a good area in the 78704 off of south lamar. Plenty of parking as the gym shares the location with businesses that don't have much foot traffic.
Great facilities including a basketball court and pool. They also have a sauna and plenty of free weight equipment.
Longer hours really. The gym opens at 5am and closes at 10pm. Would like to see 24 hours if possible.
Physical fitness, they have the Appropriate equipment for it
Na. I haven't had personal training from la fitness.
Month to month with an activation fee
Wanted a proper place to workout close to home. Wanted to put on muscle and have a place where I could just come to generally exercise.
Clean, big gym, generally good access to weights even in busy times
Personal Training good value
Perhaps a cleaner bathroom area. Soap dispensers in the bathrooms are not always full and sometimes the automatic taps don't work.
I want to gain muscle. I have a personal trainer who sees me 1-2 times a week and sets me a workout schedule
I've had a couple of instructors and they have both been very professional and easy to workout with.
Very hard sell. But good sales people. You can negotiate and get a better price if you can pay up front.
The gym was close to the apartment where I was living at the time so it just worked out perfectly!
Most definitely recommend! The staff was super friendly, there was a lot of space and they had all the equipment I needed!
I wish they could just clean up the basketball courts a little more!
My goals are to get as lean as possible while maintaining muscle mass!
I did not have any instructors!
SUPER EASY! Everyone was so nice and they let me only pay for 2 months!
I joined primarily looking for a place to swim laps. This place has several AMAZING pool options to choose from. :)
Since the gym has been renovated, it is truly world class and beautiful. It has all the basics, it's clean, well-maintained and well-managed.
I don't know of any recommendations for improvement. It's well run, clean and maintained.
My goals have been to spend more time in the pool swimming and getting the benefits of an increased heart rate. There are plenty of lanes available ALL the time to facilitate this.
I have heard great things about the instructors, however, my current membership does not include classes, therefore, I don't have any personal experience or feedback to provide.
The signup process is really easy and streamlined. Like most university things, you have to get a picture taken.
I joined primarily for their convenient location and price. Unfortunately, a low price fielded disappointment.
There are lots of recommendations. The place has horrible management, their attitudes and follow up to commitments is Fake News.
This place is way dirtier than a high school locker room. There are flies and bugs all over the men's showers, along with mold and missing shower curtains. It's like neanderthals shower there or something.
It isn't actually. I quit due to the filth and lack of management concern.
The classes are haphazard like other gyms. I don't have any to recommend as they come and go so much that the names change often.
It was painful as I told them my pricing requirements for a gym, and just like a used car dealer, they hounded me. Eventually corporate ran a promotion with no initiation fees and I was able to join.
I wanted to explore fitness more and pick a gym that had a variety of options. From bodyweight classes to yoga to just hopping onto an elliptical. I also wanted something close by (preferably close to work) so that it would be convenient to get to.
This gym is clean, there are always cardio machines open and little cubbies with lock codes to put your keys/wallet in, the yoga classes are great, and it's not in a sketchy area.
I wish the lockers were designed like their little cubbies and that there are towels. And that there would be more mat space to do floor work.
Find a fitness activity I love
Enjoy working out
LA Fitness has helped me achieve these goals because I feel motivated to go a lot and I've found something through their classes that keeps me coming back.
Yoga instructors are super nice and kind, and tell us to go at our own pace. There's no pressure to perform or be the best. Just DO your best.
Activation fee (cost $) and monthly costs. Family plan makes it worthwhile. You can get a 5-day guest pass before committing.
Convenience, wide variety of machines, and pick-up volleyball 2x/wk made it seem the best choice at the time.
Nothing really distinguishes it from other places other than the volleyball. The place is generally clean and well kept.
Seems like every time I'm there something is either broken (disabled) or has some sort of problem. The crank to tighten the VB nets has been broken for over a year (not "cost effective" to fix). Initially, there's a hard sell to sign up for a program & trainer ($$$ prices). They make it clear it's either that or you're totally on your own -- no help at all if you go up and ask how to adjust a machine or fit yourself to it..Always too warm and far too humid.
Gradual increase in muscle and weight loss along with some increase in flexibility.
I used no instructors while there
I used no instructors while there.
I use my insurance plan so there was none.
I use my insurance plan so there was none.
I joined to continue physical recovery from health issues, to build core strength and regain balance control.
Yes, I would recommend. The facility is clean -- though the floors are not always even -- and staff is friendly. Master Trainer Austin is experienced with training people with neurological issues and knows what he's doing. He's very good at encouraging clients to stretch beyond their comfort zone without putting them in danger.
The floors could be more level, though that's a building issue and not a gym issue.
My goals are to continue my physical recovery by increasing my core strength and regain my balance control. Cardio and supervised weight training is helping me meet my goals.
Austin is amazing! Very personable and customizes training sessions to clients' needs. Is certified to train neurological issues and offers tips and suggestions that can be utilized outside of the gym.
Initial one year contract for personal training, which was in addition to gym membership.
Location is key for me, also I participate in a Blue Cross Blue Shield Fitness Program.
Well, if you live or work close to the gym location then sure. I hesitate to recommend the gym because that may increase gym population and make my life harder.
The gym is crowded after work from 5-8, more workout mats would be nice for stretching, yoga and crunches.
I'm much more likely to visit the gym when it's on my way home to and from everywhere. So, the physical location is key. My goal is to simply workout more often.
I singed up through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Fitness program. So my signup process was likely different from most.
The gym was close to where I was staying at the time -- maybe about a 3 minute drive. My friend also was a current member so I wanted someone who I could workout with!
I would definitely recommend LA Fitness on South Lamar! All the equipment is fairly new, and they have one basketball court if you're interested in shooting around. With multiple exercise classes included in your gym package, I would say it's a good bang for your buck.
If there were a few more squat racks, I think that would be good. Also, if they could refinish the floor on the basketball court, that would be amazing.
My goal is to lose 20 pounds and because the gym has so many cardio machines they definitely can help me achieve that goal!
I did not have any time with the instructors, but from what I saw, they seemed nice!
I was only in town for the summer and the staff was nice enough to have me only pay the 2 months. Other than that, I think they just have you on contract to pay per month.
I was a member at 24 Hour Fitness, but then I moved to south Austin, and this LA Fitness location is basically walking distance from my house. Much more convenient.
It's beautiful: new equipment, great classes, hardly ever crowded.
It would be nice if they had a few more lanes in the lap pool.
My goal was to have some fun playing basketball and to maintain a certain level of strength. Their equipment and classes have helped me accomplish my goal.
I had a complimentary session with a trainer (I can't remember his name) when I joined, and it was nice. He was a little pushy on the sales side, trying to get me to sign up for personal training sessions every month, but that's his job.
There's a deposit fee then it's $30/month. No cancellation, and you can continue it for as long as you want (no annual fees).
I joined for the pool because I need a lower impact. For a long time the work out has not been enough. So then I stopped going. So after a while I said to my self I just have to go it on my own, because of the trainer seems to think all we need is a little movement.
But after picking up my workout Nat Brooks showed up for a temp for the summer. Then I learned how much work out I could get from the pool ! Please Bring Nat Brooks on more than one day a week! He knows what he is doing.
It is a great place for a good work out. And It is kept clean.
We NEED Nat Brooks as an instructor in aqua fit ! He know what he is doing , and he cares.
For the past five weeks, the workout has given more strength than I knew I had. I am working on weight loss as well as my health.
Nat Brooks has gone far beyond helping with my goals. He will help if anyone asks. He wants us to know how to get there even if we don't have him there, It will be a mistake for La Fitness to let him get away when he is just what the gym NEEDS !
Convenience. This location is at walking distance.
Sure. Facility is clean and plenty of workout equipment.
Have the trainer to stop harrasing the members to signup for workout sessions.
My goal is to get stronger. I have what I need in the fasity to achieve tumblr goals.
One unstructured in particular was very pushi about me signing up for privet sessions. I have not seen him in couple of weeks so I’m hoping that he has been relocated.
Commitment was not an issue for my husband and I. No contacts :)
I was persuaded by the indoor pool. Like most things my experience started out with a bang. Trainers were great and facilities clean.
Would recommend. Facilty roomy, variety of workout equipment, nice group fitness studio, basketball court.
maintenance of free weight benches(torn, splitting, and loose). Pool and hot tub plumbing shuts down for days/week (needs thoroughly cleaned) every few months. people leaving locks overnight on lockers occupying space. Front desk personnel dont acknowledge people entering because they are using smartphones etc. Restrooms/Showers(curtains) need disinfecting and cleaned. No wifi. Workout music to low, can't hear it. whats up with kid daily lessons using a full lane with parents lined up around pool. I don't pay dues to work my schedule around LA Fitnesses outside profit interests. I'll stop here.
self motivated body toning, muscle increase, endurance, and cardio.
Member 2months after opening. First instructwr awesome for a year.1 year commit was required. I think I deserve a price break(loyal member) for hanging in for 2 1/2 years
Signup was easy straight forward. A 1 year committment was required
The staff is often giving each other haircuts in the locker room and I got a guest pass for a friend they messed up loading his info and then refused him a trial week. The store manager became rude and abusive. Take your business elsewhere
I used la fitness in another state and they were much better. The area manager called after I complained and did nothing about the issue. Ended up at another gym for a lot less and the staff are nice
Attitude of staff and management is probably the worst part. The place is very clean and well lit but it’s more a cardio class place rather than a gym
It’s not. I was hoping to become more muscular and lean but I found the equipment selection much worse unless you want treadmills and bikes
None they never came out of their office to ask if you wanted help they were often lounging on the couches watching tv
One year and they did pressure us to buy training packages and not one of them looks like they had any idea of what exercises would benefit someone
I joined this LA Fitness because it's close to my house, got everything I need in regards to workout equipment and low wait time for weights/cardio. It is also not nearly as expensive as clubs like Pure Fitness. I joined in January 2016 when I moved to Austin.
Yes! If you're looking for an affordable fitness center with classes and tons of equipment to chose from, LA Fitness South Lamar is your spot.
The club could use at least one more squat rack and stay open later on Sunday nights. They close at 8pm which is pretty early for a weekend night.
My goals are to stay healthy and have a convenient place to workout.
I prepaid for my members for 3 years and think it worked out to be under $20 per month which is way cheaper than paying month to month. If you can afford that option, it's the best bet!
